Big Bone Lick State Historic Site, the Birthplace of Vertebrate Paleontology. National Honors and Accolades!

Big Bone Lick State Historic Site is known as the Birthplace of Vertebrate Paleontology. Since the eighteenth century, Big Bone Lick has been recognized as a place of importance. In 1972, the National Park Service (NPS) listed BBL on the National Register of Historic Places and later included it on the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. In 2009, the NPS designated BBLSHS as a National Natural Landmark. This spring, the National Historic Landmark application is in final review with the NPS. Join us to explore why Big Bone Lick is worthy of all of these honors.
