Bison at Big Bone
For millennia, bison roamed the grasslands and rolling hills of Kentucky, searching for food, water, and nutrients. Thousands of these majestic mammals traveled to Big Bone Lick along well-worn traces for one main purpose: salt. Today Big Bone Lick State Historic Site plays host to a small herd of American bison. This program, presented by the park manager and park interpreter, will cover the natural history of bison, the background and current state of the Big Bone herd, and how bison enhance the visitor experience.
