2018 Great Outdoors Weekend
Friends of Big Bone participated in the "2018 Great Outdoors Weekend" event at Big Bone Lick on September 29th. The annual event was a huge success, with well over 200 visitors to the park actively engaging in the various outdoor activities. Bob Genheimer, Curator of Archaeology at the Cincinnati Museum Center, and Stanley Hadeen, authoritarian and author of "Big Bone Lick: The Cradle of American Paleontology", gave guided tours to park visitors throughout the day, and everyone enjoyed browsing the many outdoor exhibits, including the 1800s frontier life tent exhibit, and bone collections and artifacts. The kids especially enjoyed digging for artifacts in the hands on archaeology sand box, as well as making their own Native American necklace/bracelets, and drawing chalk Pleistocene animal silhouettes in the paved areas of the park.
